The Ibi and Friends team in Zafaraana recently reported on facebook about their mountain trip behind their center.
It was not agreed upon beforehand but apparently something attracts people in mountains and high points.
From the Ibi and Friends center in the Dahab you have a magnificent view on the Sinai mountains, which are very rough and colorful.
The Sinai mountains along the coast of Dahab consist of Granite (red color) mixed with Basalt (black/grey) and are formed due to volcanic activity in the earth. 20 million years ago when Egypt and the Saudi Arabian peninsula were still connected, thermal currents in the earth created huge cracks (gulf of aqaba) and lifted up the land, this created the Sinai Peninsula with it’s mountains in the south and the east as we know it today.
It took Kosty and Paparazzi about three hours to reach the top of one of the mountains behind our center, which they estimated to be a climb of about 100 meters. Not as high as in Zaafarana but high enough to enjoy a beautiful scenery. The trip was not easy as there was no path and they found a lot of sliding rocks on their way so, to reach the top was actually quite an achievement. We do not recommend this to all people to follow this idea as it is exhausting and you have to take care, but these two young men could not resist the adventure... After reaching the top Paparazzi made a great picture of Kosty holding the Ibi and Friends flag. Something like the first man on the moon but in the Sinai landscape. From this point in the mountain looking at the lagoon the different windsurfing area’s and their natural barriers become very clear.
For people who have never been in Dahab herewith a small explanation:
From the Ibi and Friends center you have easily access to all the different windsurf areas. Directly in front of the center is a teaching area for beginners. Intermediate windsurfers can go to the left in the protected area of the lagoon, an excellent place for practicing beach starts and water starts. The Speedy area is for advanced windsurfers that want to go very fast for long distances (Freeride, Speed, and Slalom). Freestylers can go to baby Bay for extremely flat water. With good wind there is a good swell in the open sea area behind the coral reef (Napoleon reef), which is called Kamikaze.
As said this trip is not suitable for everybody to try as it can be a bit unsafe but we hope with these great pictures you can have a glimpse from the beauty of nature that we are surrounded with here and that it will inspire you to have a holiday with us in Dahab.
We hope to see a lot of guest in Dahab this year to enjoy the peace and quiet in Dahab, the beauty of Sinai but of course first of all to have a lot of wind and great windsurfing!!!
